Dear performers & parents,

MTE is excited to announce auditions for our 1st JTF Company!

This by-audition-only performance group of dedicated performers ages 10–18 is for those ready to take their training to the next level. This select group is designed for students who are serious about the performing arts and motivated to grow as true triple threats by strengthening their skills in acting, dance, and vocal performance.

Company members will travel to Junior Theater Festival to perform a 15-minute cut from a JR musical, receive feedback & take classes from industry professionals, and represent Musical Theatre East on a national stage.

Performers who are committed, coachable, and eager to challenge themselves in a focused, ensemble-driven environment are encouraged to audition.

What/When is JTF?

Company members will represent Musical Theatre East at:

2027 Junior Theater Festival in Sacramento, CA - February 4th-8th, 2027

JUNIOR THEATER FESTIVAL (JTF) is the world’s biggest and best celebration of young people performing musical theater. JTF brings together student musical theater troupes from all over the world for a weekend of musical theater mayhem and madness. Each troupe performs fifteen minutes from a Broadway Junior or KIDS show for adjudication by a panel of musical theater experts. The weekend features workshops for students, directors and parents, a New Works Showcase featuring new musical adaptations soon to be released and concludes with a grand finale concert headlined by Broadway’s best! The Junior Theater Festival is sponsored by Playbill, Disney Musicals and Music Theatre International.

Company Member Commitment & Eligibility

Representing Musical Theatre East at JTF is a huge responsibility. It requires commitment, hard work, teamwork, and consistent preparation. Practicing at home and arriving to rehearsals ready to work is essential to maintaining the level of excellence we expect from our company.

Company members are expected to lead with respect and make wise, responsible choices—both throughout our focused rehearsal process and while traveling out of state. Professionalism and a positive attitude are non-negotiable. All performers must show respect toward Directors, fellow cast members, volunteers, chaperones, and festival staff at all times, as we proudly represent MTE in everything we do.

Performers must be 10-18 years old. No high school graduates are allowed to perform at JTF.
Company members commit to a year-long participation in regular MTE programming (Fall 2026 & Spring 2027 productions)
Audition videos are due by July 1st, 2026. If you are selected for the in-person dance callback, you will be notified by email.
Rehearsals for Company will be held Friday evenings (Aug-Jan)
Each company member is allowed two unavoidable conflicts. Please avoid conflicts if at all possible. Rehearsals & attendance is critical to our success. Musical Theatre is our team sport!

Costs & Weekend Planning

There is no fee to sign up for auditions.
Performers $750 fee will include MTE Company Tuition plus JTF Admission Wristband & T-Shirt. This does NOT include airfare, hotel or meals. This fee is due upon Company Member casting.
EVERY STUDENT MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A PARENT FOR TRAVEL AND THE FESTIVAL. MTE staff will NOT supervise students at or outside of the festival. Chaperones are required to purchase an admission wristband to JTF ($335/person).
If your parent cannot attend, you may travel with another family- but this needs to be communicated in writing to Ms. Jorie ahead of time. There must be one parent chaperone for every four students traveling together.
Travel details are arranged independently. (Flights, hotel, transportation from airport to hotel, and hotel to festival, etc.) Please feel free to share rooms with other families to save money!
Please plan to arrive in Sacramento Thursday evening. We will head home from the festival Monday morning.

Auditions

Sign up for auditions HERE. Auditions will be by video submission. There will be an in-person dance callback Thursday, July 9th. If you are needed, you will be notified by email.
In your video...

- Slate. Introduce yourself, say your age and briefly tell us why you want to go to Junior Theater Festival.

- Perform 45-60 seconds of a musical theatre song with an instrumental track. No acapella singing please.

- Submit your audition video by July 1st, 2026. Your audition video needs to be uploaded as an Unlisted YouTube video (so only those with the link can view it).
