SHOW TYPES
Musical Theatre East operates unlike most theatre companies. Here, everyone who registers for a production is guaranteed a role in the show (space permitting). While registration secures your spot in the cast, auditions help us match each performer to the role that best aligns with their skills, experience, and fit for the part.

At MTE, we welcome students ages 5 through 19 to experience the joy of theatre. Our year-round programs are designed to provide opportunities for everyone, regardless of experience. Every registered student has the chance to shine on stage. We believe that the path to building confidence and skill starts with inclusion, not exclusion. That’s why our Shining Stars, JR, and Mainstage productions cast all who register, creating a supportive environment where students of all levels work together to produce incredible shows.

Even with this inclusive approach, our artistic team delivers high-quality productions that captivate audiences and showcase the God-given talent, gifts & abilities of our performers.
At MTE, every role matters, and every performer has a chance to grow, learn, and shine!
SHINING STARS (Ages 5-8)
Shining Stars introduces our youngest performers to the joy of musical theatre! Fall classes focus on foundational skills like singing, dancing, and acting, all taught in a fun and engaging environment. The semester culminates in a variety-style showcase, where students proudly display what they've learned. In the spring, Shining Stars work together to rehearse and perform a delightful 30-minute musical. Every rehearsal is designed to nurture confidence, teamwork, and creativity while preparing students for their big moment on stage. No auditions are required—every child has a chance to shine!
JR. (Ages 9-12)
Our JR. program dives deeper into the world of musical theatre with one-hour productions each semester. Rehearsals focus on skill-building, including ensemble work, character development, and choreography, all while fostering a strong sense of community among cast members. Auditions are held during the first week to assign roles. Students will learn how to work as a team to create a polished performance while building confidence in their individual talents. This program is perfect for performers ready to take their skills to the next level in a supportive environment.
MAINSTAGE (Ages 13-19)
Mainstage productions provide a full-scale Broadway-style experience for teens and young adults. Rehearsals focus on developing advanced performance skills, including vocal technique, intricate choreography, and deep character work. Auditions are held before rehearsals begin to cast the show, ensuring each performer has a role suited to their unique talents and abilities. The rehearsal process mirrors a professional theatre setting, teaching cast members the value of dedication, discipline, and collaboration. Whether you're playing a lead or supporting role, Mainstage participants will grow as performers and as individuals while working together to create a show-stopping production.
